Frequently asked questions

How much holiday am I entitled to?

Almost all workers in the UK are entitled to 5.6 weeks’ paid holiday a year. For someone working 5 days a week that’s 28 days, which can include bank holidays. The statutory entitlement is capped at 28 days, even if you work 6 days a week.

How is part-time holiday worked out?

Multiply the days you work each week by 5.6. Someone working 3 days a week gets 16.8 days. Working in hours, multiply your weekly hours by 5.6.

What about irregular hours or zero-hours contracts?

For leave years starting on or after 1 April 2024, irregular-hours and part-year workers build up holiday at 12.07% of the hours they work in each pay period.

Are bank holidays included?

There’s no legal right to paid leave on bank holidays. Employers can count them as part of the 5.6 weeks. Check your contract – many give bank holidays on top.
