A half marathon is 21.0975 km (13.1 miles) and a marathon 42.195 km (26.2 miles). One mile is 1.609344 km, so a pace per mile is 1.609 times your pace per km.

Frequently asked questions

How do I work out my running pace?

Divide your time by the distance. A 25-minute 5K is 25 ÷ 5 = 5 minutes per kilometre, which is about 8:03 per mile.

What pace do I need for a sub-4-hour marathon?

About 5:41 per km or 9:09 per mile, held for all 42.195 km. Most runners aim a few seconds faster to allow for water stations and crowds.

Will I run a marathon at my 10K pace?

Usually not – most runners slow down over longer distances. The race table below assumes the same pace throughout, so treat longer-distance times as a best case.
