Frequently asked questions

Degrees or radians?

Choose Degrees for everyday angles (a right angle is 90°) and Radians for maths and physics work where angles are in terms of π (a right angle is π/2). The setting affects sin, cos, tan and their inverses.

What order are calculations done in?

The usual order of operations (BIDMAS): brackets, then powers, then multiplication and division, then addition and subtraction. So 2 + 3 × 4 = 14, and −2² = −4.

What can I type?

Numbers, + − * / ^ ( ) ! and %, plus sin, cos, tan, asin, acos, atan, ln, log, sqrt, abs, exp, pi, e and Ans. You can leave out the × sign, as in 2π or 3(4 + 1). Press Enter for the answer and Escape to clear.
