How it works

Wallpaper is hung in vertical drops. The number of drops is the wall width divided by the roll width, rounded up. Each drop needs the wall height plus the pattern repeat and about 10 cm for trimming top and bottom, so a roll gives as many whole drops as fit in its length. Rolls needed = drops ÷ drops per roll, rounded up.

Example: 15 m of wall at 2.4 m high with 53 cm rolls needs 29 drops; each 10.05 m roll gives 4 drops of 2.5 m, so you need 8 rolls.

Frequently asked questions

How many rolls of wallpaper for an average room?

A typical UK bedroom of about 4 m × 3.5 m with 2.4 m walls needs around 8 standard rolls with no pattern repeat, before taking off doors and windows.

What is a pattern repeat?

It’s the distance before the pattern repeats down the roll. Each drop has to line up with the next, so a large repeat wastes more paper. It’s printed on the roll label; plain papers have no repeat.

Why buy from the same batch?

Colours can vary slightly between print runs. Check every roll has the same batch number, and buy a spare in case of mistakes or repairs.
