How your age is calculated
The calculator counts complete years since your date of birth, then complete months, then the days left over. Total months, weeks and days are exact counts of calendar days, so leap years are included.
Example: someone born on 1 January 2000 was 25 years, 11 months and 30 days old on 31 December 2025, and turned 26 the next day.

Frequently asked questions
How is age worked out?
Age is counted in whole years from your date of birth, then whole months, then the days left over – just as you would on a calendar. Your age goes up by one on each birthday.
What if I was born on 29 February?
In years without a 29 February, this calculator treats 1 March as your birthday, which is the usual approach in UK law. Many people celebrate on 28 February instead.
Does it use my time zone?
Yes. “Today” is the date on your device, so the result is right wherever you are. No dates are sent anywhere.
